🌿 Netra Tarpan (Eye Rejuvenation Therapy in Ayurveda)

Definition:
Netra Tarpan (also called Akshi Tarpana) is a classical Ayurvedic treatment in which medicated ghee or oil is retained over the eyes for a specific period of time using a dough ring.
It is a specialized therapy for maintaining eye health, improving vision, and treating ocular disorders.

🔹 Procedure of Netra Tarpan

1. Purva Karma (Preparation)

  • Patient is made to lie comfortably in a supine position.

  • Face and eye area are gently cleaned.

  • A dough ring (made of black gram flour or wheat flour) is placed around the eyes to form a leak-proof boundary.

2. Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure)

  • Medicated ghee (commonly Triphala Ghrita, Jeevantyadi Ghrita, Mahatriphala Ghrita) is warmed to body temperature.

  • The lukewarm ghee is carefully poured inside the dough ring to cover the eyes.

  • The patient is instructed to keep eyes open and blink gently during the procedure.

  • Duration: 10–20 minutes depending on the condition.

3. Paschat Karma (Aftercare)

  • Ghee is removed, eyes are wiped clean with sterile cotton.

  • Gentle fomentation (using warm cloth) may be given.

  • The patient is advised to avoid strong light, dust, reading, or straining the eyes immediately after therapy.
